一般医护人员对化脓性汗腺炎缺乏认识，未能及时确诊，认为这是个人卫生有问题而导致的疾病，鄙视患者，更让患者感觉无助，受孤立，求助无门。吉打中央医院皮肤专科顾问医生陈伟璋指出，化脓性汗腺炎是一种顶泌汗腺或大汗腺(apocrine gland)慢性化脓性炎症，主要发生于腋下，外生殖器，肛门周遭等较隐秘处。
