Dr. Chong Shun Siang obtained his basic medical degree from University of Malaya medical school in 2002. After his graduation, Dr. Chong was posted to several government hospitals. He was attached to the Surgical Department under KKM Hospitals from September 2003 – May 2008. During this period, Dr. Chong had performed various surgeries and procedures. Dr. Chong completed his post graduate training in Master of Surgery in 2012 from University of Malaya. He became the Clinical Specialist at GHKL and attached to the Department of Surgery, Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang and Malacca General Hospital from June 2012 – December 2013. Subsequently after that, he joined the Department of Surgery, University Malaya Medical Center in January 2014 and became the Clinical specialist at UMMC, Endocrine Surgery unit. Dr. Chong is now the General Surgeon at University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and visiting Consultant General Surgeon at Alpha Specialist Centre. His special interest is in thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery. He has performed about 100 surgeries in thyroid in a year time.
Besides practicing as a Surgeon, Dr Chong also actively involved in the development of the medical education. He was the coordinator for final MBBS examination for Melaka Manipal Medical College from year 2004 to 2007 and member of AAES since 2014. Dr. Chong is now the Senior Lecturer at Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. Along his medical career, Dr Chong has published many scientific papers both internationally and locally in General Surgery, as well as Endocrine Surgery.
