The wildlife viewing opportunities on the Kinabatangan are incredible, but there's no escaping that the number of animals you see on the Kinabatangan river tour is the result of the huge level of deforestation, which has sadly pushed them into a very narrow corridor surrounding the river.
For a slightly more 'natural' environment, I would highly recommend a couple of days at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley. It's very pricey, and there are no guarantees of animal sightings, but for us it was a wonderful experience in the heart of the rainforest. It really is luxurious as well, considering they're a 2hr drive over logging roads from the nearest town.

You can see orang utang feeding and nursery if you want but the best is jungle trial. Some kilometers through the jungle with 100% humidity and 30 Celcius degrees is unforgetable experience. Really reccomend.
