Dr. Chan Kok Yu is an orthopaedic surgeon registered in the National Specialist Register, Malaysia.
Mr. Ong graduated from the University of Malaya in 1991. He completed his orthopaedic training from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and graduated with Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998. After he had obtained his FRCS (Edinburgh) qualification, he completed his AO Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery in Switzerland in 2002. He joined the Department of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery in National University Hospital, Singapore, as a Registrar for 15 months and then completed one year of Fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, U.S.A. in 2005. He went on to continue his Fellowship in Hand Surgery in Melbourne, Australia, for another 6 months.
 

He is a member of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery, Malaysian Orthopaedic Association, Academy of Medicine and AO Alumni. He was a lecturer at the Penang Medical College from 1998 to 2004 and was the instructor for Basic Surgical Course organized by the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland.

 
Mr. Ong is a qualified Orthopaedic Surgeon with full subspecialty training in Hand and Microsurgery. Besides general orthopaedic surgery such as trauma and fractures, joint replacement surgery, paediatric orthopaedic surgery, limb lengthening, spine surgery, sports injury, the services provided also include all aspects of acute hand and upper limb injuries such as microsurgical replantation and reconstruction, fingertip injuries, nerves and vessels repair, tendon repair and reconstruction, hand and wrist fractures, brachial plexus and periphery nerve surgery, treatment of common hand conditions such as endoscopic release for carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger fingers, ganglion cysts, tenosynovitis, arthritis of the hands and wrists, congenital and acquired hand deformities, wrist arthroscopy, bone and soft tissue tumours of the hand, hand infection and finger joint replacement.
 
 
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Malaya in 1999. After undergoing specialist training in orthopaedic surgery, he was conferred the Master of Orthopaedic Surgery degree from the University of Malaya in 2008. Dr. Chan then served as an orthopaedic surgeon under the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. In 2010, Dr. Chan furthered his training in joint replacement surgery and sports surgery at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore under a clinical fellowship. He is therefore sub specialised in the fields of joint replacement surgery and sports /arthroscopic surgery. Arthroscopic surgery involves surgery to the knee, shoulder and hip using minimal size incisions (keyhole surgery).
 
Dr. Chan's special expertise is in treating injuries and condition involving the joints of the knee, shoulder and hip. He is sub specialised in the following operations:
 
Knee surgery:
  • Total knee replacement with computer assisted surgery (computer navigation)
  • Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using the anatomical concept
  • Arthroscopic PCL and complex multi-ligament reconstruction
  • Osteotomy correction of knee deformity (computer navigation)
  • Knee-cap instability corrective surgery with soft tissue repair and osteotomy
Shoulder surgery:
  • Arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation surgery
  • Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and biceps tendon surgery
