I was just informed that Dr. Narinder is no longer at Island Hospital. Do any of his patients know where he is practicing now? Is he still in Penang? Thank you.

Dr Narinder was approachable. He listens to our plights and concerns and advise us accordingly. The whole pregnancy journey was a fun one. We always looked forward to see him and enjoy the ultrasound scanning session. We did birth plan ahead of of due date and he walked through all the steps/intervenes who would need to do when needed and was very supportive or natural birth. He would provide his contact number for us nearing the due for us to text him in case we needed his advice or to keep in touch nearing labor. My water started leaking a day before and he was in touch with me on the phone to guide and check on my condition. Thank God that th3ere were no many delivery case on the day I delivered, so I've got all the attention needed and Dr was there most of the time to monitor my condition. Delivery was smooth and he guided me very well during the push part. I have no regrets in choosing him as my gynae.

Dr. Narinder was the worse gynae in my case. Might be my bad luck. He is a sweet talker. He didn't meet our birthing plan. Wanted a calm natural birthing with him but in the end of the day, he was really pushy and unethical. Demanding me to push my baby out even before the contractions comes, else he threathened to cut. That was what he said. I was totally dumbfolded and had to obey. Had the worse tear at my perineum ever and worse of all, he didn't do a good job stitching it up leaving a big open hole. His price is over the top too.

If anyone would like to engage his service for natural birth, better get a doula as a companion.

Other mothers had bad experience with him too.

As for me, worse gynae for my case. Worse ever!

He is the expert of water delivery. There are many patients who find for him to have a water delivery with him. He is very patience and care in entertaining his patients.

He's the only doctor that does water births here on the island.  I guess it has gotten more and more popular (and will continue to do so, considering how many pregnant friends we have already recommended him to!) because the hospital now has two pools and they're planning on building a permanent fixture in the labor ward.  His card says that he is a specialist in "natural birthing methods".  Unlike many doctors here in Asia, he actually listens.  He gives sound advice. Plus, he gave us a birth plan to fill out and discuss with us, a 'multiple choice' of sorts, which was super awesome and made it so easy for us.  And when the time came, he respected all of it and we didn't have to worry about anything not being like we requested.  Another great thing: he will give you an ultrasound at every appointment.  The cost of the ultrasound is 80rm, which is about $25 (and covered by our insurance!)  We were completely confident in him and his "let your body do what it needs to do and I'll intervene only when I absolutely have to" approach.  He gave us his cell phone number so we could call when I started to go into labor.  He stayed with us pretty much the entire time from when I was admitted until after Ellis was born.  He let Rachel, our doula, stay with us the entire time, against hospital policy.  He even worked through our insurance hassles with us

We highly recommend Dr. Narinder.  His bedside manner is congenial and subdued.  He listens to all our concerns and addresses them. We were referred to Dr. Narinder through other expat friends who had a baby in Penang, just as my wife was starting to go through the ordeal of morning sickness.  Dr. Narinder has the distinction of being the only doctor certified to do water birth in Penang. Dr. Narinder and his nurse Juliana had no problems with us having toddlers in tow when we came.  They are very good at speaking to children (again unusual for medical professionals in Asia).

Dr. Narinder had warned us that we should let him know as soon as possible when contractions start during labor, because it takes three hours to fill up the birthing pool in the delivery room.  He gave us his personal phone number and told us to contact him directly and he would make arrangements for us.A few weeks before the due date, we were shown the delivery room and the nursery ward.  That was really nice gesture on their part (something we never had with the other children).  The nurses on that floor are very friendly and helpful.

On the day of the birth, we contacted him just before 8am to let him know that the contractions had started, and that we planned on getting to Island Hospital around 10:00.  Later he told us that after he got our call he got to Island Hospital to make arrangements for us at 8:30.  So awesome that he is so hands on and delegates only when he needs to.

recommended Dr Narinder Singh Shadan in Island Hospital, Penang. I was 36 weeks pregnancy when i found out there is someone who can help me in such deliver way. BTW, Dr Narinder is the first O & G offering water birth in Malaysia.

When i went to visit him by myself without hubby because i need to talk with him to find out how he can help me in the way i want to deliver a child before i convince my hubby. And YES, he is the "helper" tat i am searching for. (So call helper, because i want to deliver my baby all by myself with hubby, gynae is the one stand beside to help only. I still believed that i can have a very smooth delivering!) Dr Narinder asked to bring my hubby along during next visit, he want to talk with him too, teach him how to prepare if any emergency happened.

Hubby went along during my 2nd visit. Dr Narinder done an vaginal exam to estimate when i can deliver so that hubby can be prepare when not to go for outstation, even cannot go to Ipoh. :P And same as what i estimate next week... Dr Narinder can't stand the question that i asked, i listed, so he gave me a natural birth plan list to fill in and asked me to return to him next week, so that he can be prepared when i admitted. The plan was as the same plan that i wished too. I need to sign and hubby too he need to sign to agree what i wish for.

Ok,another weekend, need to complete the final preparation including adjustment of the furniture. Sorry, i am not the pantang type so tak ape la.

By 21th, midnight, the mild contraction started. Not sure is the time the truth contraction or the false alarm again... can't sleep for the whole night... so concentrated my mind to finish my work before went for maternity leaves. I still go to work in the next morning. Hubby fetch me on 10am for another visiting to Dr Narinder. again he done the same thing ot me, and wah la... the real show started, started dilated. Darm... we didn't prepare my bag yet. Dr Narinder estimate will be in the late afternoon, so he asked us to go home and get everything prepare. Who knew, when we away from Island Hospital just less that 10km i told my hubby:" honey, you need to turn back to hospital now, the contraction is getting stronger and stronger." As usual, hubby started panic la! After he drop me to the hospital, he went back to get my things immediately.

In the labour room, i asked not to be tied so that i can be free walking till I want to push my baby out. But Dr Narinder asked to be monitor for 30 minutes because he need to estimate from my graft when to deliver. Ok, this wasn't the happy experience or service that i get from a private hospital. I was tied on the bed with the monitor for 1 hour, no body come to check on me in 2 hour, i wasn't told which bell to press for emergency, all the nurse seem "disappear"! I got down from the bed by un-detach the monitor and i started to walk in the room while chatting with my family. I need to inform them. Meanwhile i called my hubby asked him to be in the hospital as soon as possible, may be i am going to deliver anytime. I want him to be with me.

When sister Christine came and checked for me i asked to see Dr Narinder immediately as i can feel that my baby is coming very soon. She quickly call for Dr Narinder and asked her girl to change me. Can you imagine they are switching labour room for me and ask me to walk. I walk from room D to room C, by myself. Once i reach to room C, i "crawl" onto the bed and get myself changed. Actually i still wonder what position i should be in to deliver my baby. But the due to the strong contraction i was in the doggie position, so i just choose this position to deliver my child. It's too pain i can't even move my body or change my position by now!

Dr Narinder never expect i can be dilated from 3cm to 10cm in 2 hour time, including the water bag burst by itself. When the time he arrived and he want to checked on me how many cm already dilate, i remember i told him "Don't touch me!" Aiyo... the contraction so strong and you still want to check how many cm dilated... haha... and he really not touching me, but i gave him a big shock, i told him "I am going to push now!" Then just in 2 pushes, baby head is out, he told me in gentle "tell me when you have another contraction"... "is coming..." another 2 pushes my baby is out! "Turn yourself into position, i will pass you your baby."
