Having been in the hospital industry in the United States, quality of care, staff professionalism, and calibre of the physicians on staff are things that I immediately notice when coming to a hospital.nnAter moving to Johor a few years ago, and having shall we say "unpleasant" and "unqualified" experiences with the local physicians at one of the areas famous private hospitals that will go unnamed, my Singapore cardiologist recommended a colleague, Dr. Ang Kai Ping at Regency Specialist Hospital to examine me for possible hypertension (high blood pressure).nnMy first impression of Regency was extremely positive, The hospital was spotlessly clean, staff at the patient intake (and payment) areas were pleasant, proficient and helpful.nnDr. Ang, an energetic, pleasant Cardiologist, trained in Taiwan was thorough, proficient, extremely competent, and skilled. As this was my first visit with him, his examination was very extensive including an ECG, a complete 60 blood and urine panel including a PSA test, and a Cardiac Ultrasound. He was patient, and thoroughly explained my various options. The medication that I selected with his guidance has been effective and my hypertension is under control.nnHaving owned hospitals in the USA, I met one of Regency's customer service personnel who took me on a brief tour of the hospital. What I saw was an extremely well equipped Radiology and Imaging facility that had state of the art CT and MRI equipment (rivaling that of neighboring Singapore), advanced robotic surgical equipment, and well furnished wards and private rooms. I was particularly impressed with the staff moral and the level of nursing competence - they were exceptional!nnA few months later, I suffered painful urination, and suspected a urinary tract infection (UTI). I was referred to a urologist, Dr. Han Pei Kwong. As this visit involved my personal plumbing, I was a bit frightened to say the least, but again, Dr. Han was extremely well trained and experienced, and quickly but thoroughly examined me, ran a few tests and confirmed the UTI for which he prescribed an effective antibiotic. Since I am older, I have what's commonly called an enlarged prostate gland, which can make urination difficult. Dr. Han did a thorough exam, including an ultrasound, and pronounced my kidneys and plumbing fixtures in reasonably good condition for a man of my age (classified!). I was considerably relieved that it wasn't more serious.nnIn May, I suffered a massive pulmonary embolism and collapsed at home. My wife and helper were able to get me into our car and took me to Regency, where I was quickly wheel chaired into see Dr. Ang, who immediately sent me to the Emergency Room where I was stabilized. Blood Tests, ultrasound, and an enhanced CT scan confirmed the grim diagnosis, and I was given immediate medical intervention to relieve my labored breathing and blood thinners to prevent further clotting.nnDr Ang brought in a pulmonary specialist, Dr. Ronald Chor Kuan, another young, energetic and funny Taiwan trained physician. I've never been this scared in my life, as the initial prognosis was grim, but both Dr. Ang, Dr. Lim and the ER staff were doing their best to cheer me up, as well as treat me.nnI was admitted, and taken to the ICU for several days, then a very nice private ward room. The nursing staff were simply amazing. They knew exactly what they were doing, they were well coordinated, proficient and above all, encouraging.nnI can honestly say that Dr. Ang, Dr. Lim, the ER Physician, and the staff at Regency saved my life. No doubt about it... and when I was depressed about my future, both Dr. Lim and Dr Ang were upbeat, encouraging and kept me focused on my recovery.nnOh... and the food in the ward was really good! That certainly kept my spirits up - the Laksa was wonderful, chicken rice - quite nice, etc!!nnI am convinced that without the skills of the staff and physicians at Regency, I would not be here today to write this review.nnThank you! Thank you Dr. Ang, Dr. Lim and Dr. Han and all the nursers and staff at Regency!
