Men making catcalls is becoming rampant, especially in the city and Selangor, and women are finding it offensive. While some perceive it as an invasion of privacy and also intimidating, others simply choose to ignore it. Checks by the Sun, from January to May, showed a total of 118 cases have been reported nationwide, mostly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. While catcalling may seem harmless, psychiatrist Dr Gurdeep Singh Grewal said it could potentially lead to rape or assault. Of course, when the perpetrator is obsessive, it can lead to sexual assault, he said. Gurdeep Singh added there is a theory in psychology which says such actions may stem from what is called modelling theory . Modelling theory is a form of learning where individuals ascertain how to act or perform by observing another individual.
